Compass celebrated WED 2022 in collaboration with NSU

With a colorful Environment Carnival, USAID’s Compass program in collaboration with North South University organized a two-day long celebration of World Environment Day, 2022. The honorable Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Atiqul Islam inaugurated the carnival on June 05, 2022.

The key objective of the day celebration was to create awareness among the students and faculties on the significance of the day. The WED 2022 carnival at NSU included information booths, quizzes, and interactive games regarding biodiversity awareness for the students. A seminar on the theme of the day “Only one earth” was organized on the 2nd day at the university. The event was chaired by Professor Islam, where Dr. Abu Mustafa Kamal Uddin, Project Lead, Compass; and Mr. Ashraful Haque, Project Management Specialist, USAID attended as Special Guests. Eminent water and flood management expert Professor Mashfiqus Salehin, Institute of Water and Flood Management, BUET presented the keynote of the day on integrated water resource management. Speakers attending the seminar emphasized understanding the significance of the theme of the day and urged everyone to take immediate action to conserve the environment. Faculties and students from environmental science and other disciplines at the university participated in the seminar. 

USAID’s Compass program has partnered with North South University to build the capacity of academic and research institutions in natural resource management and resilience. Observance of the day with NSU demonstrated Compass’s engagement with academic institutions to strengthen the technical and research capacity of students and faculties of academic institutions.
